Moving is always costly, whether it is in same city or interstate moving. Total expanses of moving runs in thousands, so any small thing that saves money on moving is always well come. There are areas where it is difficult to save any money but there are other areas where the possibility of saving money increases. Majority of expenses of moving is going in to the pocket of moving company and renting a truck. It is quite possible to extract some dollar from these two services.
Be light. That is reducing the weight. You must be aware that most of the moving companies charge on total weight basis. Reducing the weight will surely reduce your moving company’s bill. Rule of thumb is anything you have not used for one year is to be discarded or given as charity.
Most of the moving company has off season plan. If you are free to choose the month of moving, than select June or July. During this month moving companies has very little work and are happy to offer you discount.
Ask moving company to offer you maximum discount they can afford. Generally reputable company quotes as per the ‘Tariff 400’ it is the book published by their organization called AMSA. But due to competitions many moving companies offer discount up to 40 % or more from the basic quote. Don’t depend on only one moving company take 3-4 other moving companies quote also.
There are some ‘free’ time, when the moving company’s truck goes to your destination empty, if you are ready to compromise with the time than moving company may offer you lower rate.
Be ready to unload when the truck arrives; since the storage charge in the warehouse of moving company is very high. If possible try to pack movable yourself. The professional packer service is costly.
